Asbestos Cancer Kills 28-Year-Old British Woman

asbestos cancerAsbestos cancer has claimed the life of Leigh Carlisle, a 28-year-old woman who lived in the United Kingdom. This news is particularly shocking since mesothelioma usually develops many years after asbestos exposure, with death occurring long after a sufferer's prime years.

In all likelihood, Leigh was exposed to asbestos at school when she was a youngster. Back in the 60's, a company that manufactured asbestos products convinced government officials that the continued use of asbestos products in schools was a good idea. Click here to read the full story.

A woman's risk of breast or ovarian cancer is higher if she has BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene changes. Breast cancer is extremely rare in men but BRCA2 gene changes have been linked to male breast cancer and possibly prostate cancer.
